A Thrill Before Dying

"...we don't have any passengers on board, so we decided to have a little fun..."

Update: Another take on this story from Sam over at Blogging at FL250 who also linked us in his blogroll along with another aviation blog that you ought to read.

Update II: More commentary from Glenn at Rant Air.

Thanks for the link, OBD. Yellowbird linked me to the CVR transcript - I hadn't realized it'd been released - and that changed my thinking on the accident somewhat. I still think the media has the wrong take on it, though.

I have to agree that the media screws up aviation reporting and always has. The only alternative is to call/e-mail them with relavant commentary. I have done this with Fox News (on the Wellstone King Air crash) and they are likely to put you on air.

I emailed ABC News to voice my displeasure but didn't get any return email.

Remember Jessica Dubroff, the 8-year old "pilot" who crashed when her CFI had her take off into a thunderstorm? I was a 15-year old student pilot at the time, and there were serious calls for no flight training until 16 or 17. I called several Minneapolis radio stations to educate them on the realities of flight training, and ended up on the air at several of them.
